About us
Stitch-Up is a community craft school specialising in textiles and focused on the power of craft to bring people together and help improve mental health and wellbeing.
Created from a passion for textile crafts,
A lived experience of using knitting as a tool to manage anxiety and a background in youth and community work, Stitch-Up was set up by Jen as a not-for-profit Social enterprise in 2015 to create quality craft experiences and help others in need to access creative opportunities.
Beginning with knitting groups and courses in cafes and venues in the heart of communities in Leeds, working in partnership with community organisations and focusing on areas experiencing disadvantage, a growing need for more creative opportunities was obvious. We began to assemble a small team of passionate and community minded craftspeople to deliver more workshops, courses and events.
Investing in good design to help engage people and focusing on quality and enriching experiences, our aim has always been to make learning a craft, fun, empowering and most importantly accessible to all.
Almost 6 years on we’ve taught new skills to thousands of people across Leeds and beyond, moved and grown with the times and only ever operated in response to peoples needs with our core values remaining as the thread that runs through everything we do.
We now deliver a regular programme of workshops and events at our textile studio on Meanwood Road and sell craft supplies in our online shop with any profits being put straight back into our community projects including our new community hub space in Meanwood Community Centre.
Collective Power of Community
We believe in social enterprise and using our skills for good, the collective power of community to create social change and the need for creativity in our lives. Join us for a workshop, top up your craft supplies and look out for one of our community courses.
